]]>Comfort should be the main principle when choosing any outfit, especially a Holi outfit. Holi celebrations often involve a lot of movement, from dancing to the playful throwing of colors. Opting for breathable, lightweight fabrics like cotton will allow you to move freely and enjoy playing Holi with friends and family. However, comfort doesn't mean compromising on style. Choosing vibrant, lively colors that reflect the essence of Holi can make you feel and look good. Think bright yellows, passionate reds, or serene blues.
Patterns can add depth and dimension to your Holi outfit, making it visually appealing. Experiment with intricate prints, geometric patterns, or floral motifs to add interest to your ensemble. Just ensure the patterns complement each other harmoniously. Select patterns that speak to you personally, making your attire not just a choice but a statement.
Accessories play an important role in elevating your outfit. However, the trick lies in selecting items that are not only stylish but also festival-appropriate. Waterproof watches, sunglasses and hats will not only protect you from the sun but also add a chic element to your overall look.
From head to toe, don't forget to consider footwear for your Holi outfit. Considering the outdoor setting and the possibility of getting wet, choosing shoes that are waterproof or washable is practical. Open toe sandals or washable sneakers can be both comfortable and fashionable, ensuring you enjoy the festival without worrying about ruining your favorite shoes.
For a curated selection of sustainable fashion clothing perfect for Holi and beyond, look no further than nimbu.sg. At Nimbu, we believe in creating high-quality clothes that are not only stylish, but also durable and long-lasting. We offer the option of buy-use-return to all our customers to make sure kids’ clothes get more wears out of them. And if you want to make sure your kids cotton clothes look and feel great while they still fit your kids, here are some super helpful tips!
Cotton is a super popular fabric choice for kids' clothes because it's soft, comfortable, and won't irritate their sensitive skin. But keeping cotton clothes in tip-top condition can be a little tricky, so we're here to give you some tips to make it easy peasy!
Source: Unsplash
Now, here's the deal with cotton - it can shrink if exposed to high temperatures. So, to prevent shrinking, it's important to wash and dry your children's cotton clothes with care.
Before washing, separate white clothes from colored clothes to avoid color-bleeding stains.
And when it's time to wash, make sure to use cold water instead of hot water. Hot water can cause cotton clothes to shrink. Also, don't use bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the fibers. Instead, choose a gentle detergent that's kind to delicate fabrics. Oh, and remember to turn those clothes inside-out before washing to protect the fabric and keep color in its place.

When it comes to drying cotton clothes, it's best to go easy on the heat. Set your dryer to low or hang them up to air-dry. If you do use the dryer, take the clothes out while they're still slightly damp and let them finish drying while hanging up. Overdrying them can cause shrinking, and we don't want that!

Ironing cotton clothes is simple, but be sure to keep the heat on low or medium to avoid damaging the fabric. And if your child's clothes have prints or designs, flip them inside-out before ironing to keep them looking fresh.

We know that Singapore's weather can be a total bummer when it comes to storing clothes, but don't worry - we've got some tips to help!

]]>Happy Earth Day today!🌎 It’s a special day and you as a conscious parent might have planned on attending sustainability events with your kids or observing earth hour by turning off the lights for an hour. But then, should we dedicate only a single day to our precious earth?
Instead why not make every day earth day?!
We believe that even small actions can make a big difference for our precious planet. By living an eco-friendly lifestyle with our kiddos, they learn to care for the planet. So, we’ve come up with 5 easy tips for living eco-friendly that you can start with your little ones!✨✨
Source: Unsplash
It’s not uncommon for our family members to forget to turn off their electronics completely, right? But leaving electronics on standby uses unnecessary energy, so let's encourage our kids to turn them off at the wall when they're finished using them.
Source: Freepik
One of the most impactful lifestyle changes could be to teach our little ones a valuable lesson about food waste. Encourage them to take only as much as they can finish so we can avoid contributing to landfills. You can also do your part by meal planning and using up leftovers creatively.
Source: Unsplash
Let's face it - we use way too much plastic in our daily lives! From grocery bags to straws to water bottles, it's everywhere. The problem is, plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose, which means it just sits in landfills or even worse, ends up in our oceans.
Make it a point to leave the house with a cloth bag, a reusable bottle and cutleries and straw so that you can avoid using single use plastic . It may seem small, but these habits formed in early years last a and count more than they seem!
Source: Freepik
Going car-less is a great way to help the planet! Cars that run on fossil fuels are friendly neither to your pocket nor to the planet.
If you can, try walking, biking, or taking public transport instead of always driving. Getting the kids involved can make it even more exciting! Take a stroll to the park, bike to the library or take the bus to explore a new part of the city. It will give you a lot of time to bond and make sure your are fit! 🚲🚲

It's a special time where Muslims around the world come together with family and friends to celebrate. One of the traditions during this festive season is to exchange Raya gifts or hampers. These gifts can be anything from cookies, fruits and hampers to personalised items🍪🎁.
Source: Unsplash
One of the best ways to involve your kids in the celebrations is gifts. While they love to receive gifts, this is a good opportunity to get them excited about gift giving too. This will also help you spend some quality family time during the festivals. Here are some tips on how you can get your kids involved.
Let your kids help choose the gifts. This will make them understand the effort and pride in the act of giving. We're sure they’ll love it! This is a good chance to make sure they know what their friends and family would like to receive as gifts.
This will be such a fun activity! You can choose to be sustainable by reusing wrapping papers or using newspapers to wrap the gifts and customising them with some handy painting works by your kids.
While preparing the gifts with our little ones, it's a good idea to have a small talk about why it's important to give during Raya. Discuss with them, how giving can make others and themselves feel happy and appreciated.

This year, Easter falls on Sunday, 9 April 2023, and we’re in for a long weekend. Thanks to Good Friday being a public holiday on 7 April in Singapore!
Source: Unsplash
Christian families all around the world observe the season of Lent, including Holy Week, leading up to Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ died, and Easter Sunday, the day He rose again.
This is a very special time! In Singapore, there are many exciting things happening around the city that you won’t want to miss out on! You can hunt for easter eggs, enjoy tasty Easter buffets and brunches, and take part in other amazing events that are eggs-traordinary.
Did you know that during Easter, people love to decorate everything in cute and charming pastel colors?
From eggs to flowers to family’s outfit, you’ll see these soft and pretty colors all around during the holiday season. Your eyes will be pampered with shades like purple, white, red, pink and gold. And each of these Easter colors has a special meaning that's tied to the holiday.
Now, let’s discover the meaning behind them that you and your little ones might want to know!
1. Purple
Source: Unsplash
Purple is a color that often represents royalty and is commonly associated with Lent, the period leading up to Easter. This is a popular Easter color that used to symbolize penance, humility, and sadness.
Source: Unsplash
Naturally, white represents purity, innocence, and grace. While in the religious context, white reminds us of the happiness and excitement of Easter. It represents the most important part of the celebration, which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Source: Unsplash
The color yellow is bright and cheerful like the sun, and it represents energy and happiness. This color is used during Easter to uplift people’s mood and spread joy to others.

Pink represents love, and is often used to symbolize the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus. Even outside the church, giving someone a pink rose is a happy massage that spreads joy, grace, and gentleness, according to Fifty Flowers.
Green represents new life and a new beginning. It also represents a new life that Jesus brings. And as we know, in some parts of the world, Easter is celebrated in the spring, which marks the end of the cold winter season. It’s perfect to use the color green, when everything starts blooming again.
Easter is a time for kids to have fun! Adding Easter colors to their outfit can make the holiday even more exciting! Pastel colors like pinks, purples, blues, and yellows are a popular choice for Easter outfits. But it’s not a problem if you want to use brighter colors like pink, orange, and green to create a more playful look.

]]>So, Is it okay for kids to fast?
Yes! You may let your kids participate in fasting. But, teaching kids to fast during Ramadan should be done step by step.
Start with shorter periods of fasting, and gradually increase the duration as they become comfortable. And as a parent, it’s also important to ensure they eat healthily and get the nutrition they need.
Fasting is not all that Ramadan is about, there is so much more to teach kids during this month. Read our article here on how to involve kids in the festivities of Ramadan: Introducing Ramadan to the Little Ones
If your kids do wish to fast, here are some tips for healthy eating habits during Ramadan that your kids will love!
Starting the day with a yummy and nutritious breakfast is super important, especially when you’re fasting. Eating a breakfast that includes whole grains, protein, fruits, and veggies will give you energy for the day ahead.
How about some delicious oatmeal with banana, honey, and almonds, with a glass of milk on the side? Yum!
If your kids are able to join you for Suhoor (the meal before dusk), try delaying your suhoor meal! It can help reduce the feeling of hunger and thirst during the day. So, they can tackle their daily tasks with energy and focus.
When Ramadan comes, it’s easier to find food bazaars in some parts of the city. So, you have plenty of options to eat!
Instead of eating a lot of fried, sugary, and processed foods during Iftar and Suhoor, it is better to focus on eating whole foods that keep you full for long.
Veggies, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein are great for your body, provide important vitamins and minerals, and boost your energy level!
As much as kids love their sweet drinks and snacks, it is best to avoid to keep energy levels high and avoid unnecessary weight gain.
Instead, try offering your kids healthy options, like fruits, or homemade snacks like these sugar free desserts by SATU. It’s a home based bakery that specializes in making guilt-free & low carb desserts using zero calorie natural sweeteners.

Looking for more delicious and healthy meals, heavenly cookies, desserts and cakes? Check out Her Rise Above for a variety of wholesome options. Not only will you be treating yourself, but you’ll also be supporting small local businesses in your neighbourhood.Planning meals ahead of time can help ensure that your kids are eating healthy and getting the right nutrients. Plus, involving your kids in meal planning and preparation is a great way to teach them about healthy eating habits and get them excited to try new foods.
With your involvement, children can enjoy this special time of Ramadan with the whole family. However, it’s important to consult a doctor if your kids have any underlying medical conditions before allowing them to fast.
Let’s ensure our little ones stay safe and healthy during this festive month!
]]>
It’s been a week since Ramadan started this year. We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this blessed month.
As we all know, Ramadan is an important month in the Islamic calendar, where Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Families gather at this time to break their fast and participate in other spiritual activities like prayer and reflection.
The month-long celebration brings not only spiritual rejuvenation but also cultural differences in the way people dress. During Ramadan, Muslim families often wear traditional or cultural clothing to honor the occasion.
The type of clothing worn during Ramadan varied widely depending on the country and culture. In this post, lets take you on a journey around the world and take a look at how kids’ clothing differs during Ramadan.

In the Middle East, boys may wear thobes, long robes worn over a shirt. The thobe is usually white but may be found in other colors. Meanwhile, girls may wear abayas, which are long, loose-fitting dresses that come in different colors and styles. Girls may also wear a headscarf called a hijab, which covers their hair and neck.

In Southeast Asia, Muslim kids may wear traditional Malay clothing such as baju melayu or baju kurung. Baju melayu consists of a loose-fitting shirt worn over trousers, while baju kurung is a long dress that is paired with a headscarf.
The outfits are usually made of lightweight fabrics such as cotton or silk to accommodate the warm and humid weather in the region. Being a kids wear brand based out of Singapore Nimbu, is all about comfort. That’s why all our kids' clothing is made of luxe soft cotton and silk to suit the Island’s weather.
In South Asia, particularly in India, girls may wear traditional clothing such as salwar kameez, a lehenga choli, or a kurti sharara paired with a headscarf called dupatta. While the boys may wear a kurta pajama, a long shirt worn over loose-fitting trousers.
We have good news! These cute and pretty outfits can be purchased for your kids, even if you live in Singapore! Nimbu has lovely collections of Kurta, Lehenga, Dresses, and Accessories for your kids to fulfill your Ramadan celebration, and they can be returned once kids outgrow!
In North Africa, the traditional kids’ clothing for Ramadan is the Kaftan, a long, flowing robe worn as a dress or pants. Kaftans come in various colors and fabrics, including bright silks and intricate embroidery.
If you want your kids to wear a kaftan, you can check our kaftan collections. We have a range too, even for women. We have a twinning option, Kaftan for you and matching shirts for your boys to dress up for Ramadan.

In other parts of the world, such as the United States or Europe, Muslim families may choose to dress their children in modern, Western-style clothing with Islamic elements, such as hijabs, modest dresses, or shirts with Islamic messages.
In conclusion, Ramadan brings cultural differences in kids’ clothing around the world. Whether it’s a thobe or baju kurung, a kurta or a modest dress, Muslim families celebrate the holy month with pride and joy, while also honoring their cultural traditions.

Wearing pre-loved clothes can be a great idea for many reasons. Here's a few of those:
1) Undoubtedly going green ♻️
One of the best things about wearing preloved is that it's a great way to be more environmentally conscious. By buying and wearing clothes that have already been used, you're helping to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
2) Affordable (Won't hurt your pockets 😉)
Another great thing about wearing pre-loved is that it can be more affordable than buying brand new clothes. Since the clothes have already been used, they are usually priced more reasonably than brand new clothes. On Nimbu.sg we curate the best preloved, second-hand clothes, toys, shoes and books for your kids at amazing prices, so you can often find some great deals when buying preloved on our website!
3) Preloved clothes are "hidden & high quality gems" 💎
When you wear pre-loved clothes, you're also often getting higher quality items than what you'd find in a store. The clothes have already been tested and proven to be of good quality, so you can trust that they will last. Plus, you can often find unique pieces that you wouldn't find anywhere else. On Nimbu we often get preloved Indian costumes from renowned brands like Fab India, Biba, Fayon Kids and regular western wear like shirts, dresses and suits from Nautica, Carter's, Mothercare, Zara and the likes.
4) Reminisce memories 🥰
Finally, wearing pre-loved clothes can be a great way to remaking memories. When you buy a piece of clothing that someone else has already worn, you can be sure that the piece of clothing you're wearing has a story to tell.
All in all, wearing pre-loved clothes is a great idea for many reasons. Not only is it more sustainable, but it's also often more affordable and of better quality than what you'd find in stores. Plus, it can be a great way to making new memories in outfits that delighted someone before you. If you're looking for a way to shop more sustainably, then pre-loved clothes are definitely worth considering. Once you're done, you can even return the clothes to Nimbu for another family to relove!
